BraapTrax Free vs Pro — What the Free App Does, and Exactly What Pro Adds

A straight breakdown of what you get in the free BraapTrax app, what BraapTrax Pro unlocks, and how to decide if it's worth it for the way you ride.

BraapTrax Free vs Pro — What the Free App Does, and Exactly What Pro Adds

Most riders download a tracking app, record two rides, and never figure out what else it does. So here's the straight version for BraapTrax: what the free app gives you, what Pro adds, and how to tell whether Pro is worth it for the way you actually ride. No fine print, no guessing which button hides a paywall.

What you get for free

The free app isn't a demo. It does the core job, and it does it every ride.

  • GPS ride recording. Open the Ride tab, start recording, and ride. BraapTrax draws your route on the map and tracks distance, speed, elevation, and moving time. Sitting at the trailhead arguing about which way to go doesn't count against your moving time.
  • A post-ride summary the second you finish, so you know how far you went and how high you climbed while the engine's still ticking.
  • Season stats. The Stats tab keeps running totals for miles, hours, and elevation, plus monthly rides and monthly miles charts. It's the easiest way to see whether you rode more this year or just talked about it more.
  • GPX export. Any ride you recorded can be exported as a GPX file from the post-ride summary or the ride's detail screen. Your data is yours. Back it up, send it to a buddy, or drop it into another mapping tool.
  • Hazard reports. On the map of a ride you recorded, long-press to report a hazard: a washout, a downed tree, whatever's going to catch the next rider out. You'll also see hazards other riders have reported near your route.
  • Trail names and difficulty. Tap a verified trail on the ride map to see what it's called and how hard it is.
  • Your crew. The activity feed, following other riders, and tagging the people you rode with all work in the free app.

If you just want to record rides, keep honest season numbers, and look out for the rest of the riders on your trails, you can stay on free indefinitely.

What Pro adds

Pro is for riders who want BraapTrax to handle the stuff around the ride, not just the ride itself.

  • The garage. Add your bikes, track maintenance, set service intervals, and get maintenance reminders before something's overdue. You can also pick which bike each ride logs to, so the 450 and the trail bike each keep their own history. If you've ever guessed at when you last changed the oil, this is the feature that pays for Pro.
  • Saved routes and GPX import. Save routes, import GPX files, and load a saved route to follow before or during a ride.
  • Offline area downloads. Draw a box on the map and download that area's imagery before you lose service. It works before the ride and during it, so you're not stuck with a blank map halfway up a drainage.
  • Full trail details and trail reports. Free shows a trail's name and difficulty. Pro opens the full Trail Details screen (distance, elevation, type, allowed vehicles, photos) and lets you save a trail to your routes or load it onto the map. You also get riders' trail reports.
  • My Content. A private library of the places that matter to you: campsites, water, trailheads. You can share pins with other riders and add the ones they share with you.
  • Ride photos. Attach up to 5 photos to a ride.
  • Deeper stats. All-Time Stats, the Leaderboard, and Head-to-Head comparisons, for when your crew's "who rode the most this year" argument needs an actual answer.

You'll see every Pro feature in the free app, usually with a small lock badge. Tap one and the upgrade options open. You're never forced to subscribe to keep using the free app.

So, is Pro worth it?

A quick gut check:

  • Own more than one bike, or do your own wrenching? The garage and maintenance reminders alone justify it.
  • Ride where the signal dies? Offline area downloads and saved routes are the difference between knowing the way out and hoping.
  • Plan rides ahead of time? Trail details, trail reports, and GPX import let you scout before you load the truck.
  • Mostly ride the same local loop and just want the numbers? Free has you covered.

Pro is $4.99 a month or $39.99 a year, and new subscribers get a 1-month free trial. That's a full month of real rides to decide whether it earns its spot. You can manage or cancel anytime in your App Store account settings.
